Baja (La Ventana) Mexico SUP Adventure
Mike’s Paddle leads a 7 day / 6 night SUP and whale watching adventure in La Ventana, Baja, Mexico - a small fishing village on the shore of La Ventana Bay, just south of La Paz on the eastern shore of the Gulf of California (formerly known as the Sea of Cortez). La Ventana Bay (Bahia de la Ventana) is well known for consistent north winds that blow from November through April, and is considered an excellent kiteboarding, windsurfing and SUP downwinding destination for all-around riders. We designed this trip to give you some incredible 5-6 mile downwind runs, paddles with whales, snorkeling in crystal clear waters and time at a beautiful and relaxing beachfront resort with a hot tub.
We offer both a Beginner itinerary with leisurely paddles and a boat ride day, as well as an Advanced itinerary with more downwinding time. Both itineraries include whale watching, sunset paddles, snorkeling, yoga, beaches and reefs, time in town, a waterfront pub crawl and plenty of relaxation and hot tubbing.
We will be staying at a beautiful beach front resort in La Ventana Bay, with a view of crystal clear, incredibly turquoise water, amazing sunrises and sunsets, a taste of friendly Mexican culture, unforgettable food, and plenty of time to just Be. You'll know you've reached this amazing resort when you see the palapa roofs of the resort’s quaint casitas, which overlook the Gulf of California and Cerralvo Island. These beautifully constructed casitas are strategically set amongst native Baja desert plants including barrel cactus, cardon, elephant trees, palo adan, candelillo, cholla, mesquite, palo verde and pitaya agria. Each casita is a standalone unit with a porch furnished with rocking chairs and a hammock, both hand made by a local ranchero.
The resort serves great breakfasts with items such as huevos rancheros, chilaquiles and good old American-style pancakes! We’ll eat most lunches there too, and might enjoy tacos, enchiladas, ceviche and/or coconut shrimp. Dinners we’ll split between the resort and restaurants in town, in particular an organic-focused restaurant and a fantastic sushi place.
La Ventana has the best weather for downwind adventures from November through April, which can range from hot and windless to chilly and windy! Wetsuit and booties are required for this trip.
