Exciting Transition Coming Spring 2024 

Dear Mike’s Paddle Customers,

Mike’s Paddle started out as a passion project that grew from me operating with a small trailer of seven boards and a handful of customers to a business that has served over 12,000 customers in just eight years. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to create a business from scratch, bringing paddle boarding to Alameda, and forming a paddlers community that has fostered friendship, fun outings, and in some cases, marriage!

Sea Trek Classes, Tours & Rentals Coming Spring 2024
I am excited to share with you that starting spring 2024 Sea Trek will assume operation of the classes, tours, and rental operations from Mike’s Paddle. Next year will be an exciting chapter for both Mike’s Paddle and Sea Trek.

Sea Trek has 42 years of experience operating a world-class paddle sports company out of Sausalito with classes, group outings, rentals, and stellar customer service. Sea Trek shares our company culture of being community-oriented and customer-centered with a safety-first approach to the Bay Area paddlesport business. Galen Licht, Sea Trek’s CEO, and I have been collaborating for several months to work out the details of the transition and I have complete confidence that Sea Trek will take care of our customers like we have for the past eight years. I personally know and have paddled with many of the Sea Trek staff, and they are awesome! Sea Trek will officially start operating in the spring of 2024, with a soft opening in April.

Mike’s Paddle Retail & Repair Services
This doesn’t mean that Mike’s Paddle is ending! We will continue to serve the community by offering retail and repair services for boards and kayaks. BayFoils (our electric foil company) is growing fast, expanding to several locations in the Bay Area. But overall our customer volume will be less and I’m confident that our staff will be able operate without a huge amount of my involvement.

The decision to transition away from classes and rentals was not an easy one. By taking a step back from being a business owner working six days a week, I will be able to spend more time with my family. My parents are aging into their 80’s and living in China, and this will allow me to travel more frequently to visit them. And, like I’ve joked with some of you, I’d like to take a nap.

Join Us October 29th to Celebrate
Last but not least, I would like to celebrate eight years of paddling, teaching, exploring the world, and having fun together by hosting a party on Sunday, October 29th, 2023.

Rentals will be $10 between 10am and 2pm for both Mike’s Paddle and Sea Trek customers (must be back to the dock by 2pm). Our staff will be there with open arms to welcome everyone. Tacos from our favorite local taqueria, Calafia Taqueria, will be served at 1pm along with refreshments. If we haven’t seen you for a while, or if you have been involved with Mike’s Paddle in the past as a staff member, please come by and say hi in celebration of this exciting new chapter!

Exciting Transition Coming Spring 2024 

From the Sea Trek team:

The Sea Trek team is honored to collaborate closely with Mike during this transition. As longtime members of the Bay Area Paddlesport community, we have been in awe of the community building and high-level skill development Mike and his team have fostered over the past few years.

Our goal is to continue to nurture the amazing and strong community surrounding Mike’s Paddle and the Ohana Paddle Club. As a family business in operation for over 42 years, we understand that at the center of paddlesports is community, and by moving into Ballena Marina, we want to honor the existing community while also offering more access to the water.

For folks who aren’t familiar with Sea Trek, we’ve operated in Sausalito’s Richardson Bay since 1982 offering SUP, kayak, and surfski programs. Our core management team comprises different generations and backgrounds (both in life and paddlesports). We are SUP, sea kayak, surfski athletes, coaches, and educators with a dedication to getting folks on the water.

As we transition, we are excited to make commitments to foster and strengthen the community through:
- Maintaining storage agreements for everyone currently storing SUPs with Mike’s Paddle
- Investing in a larger, upgraded launching dock for all to enjoy
- Expanding hours of operation year-round
- Balancing SUP with our kayaking curriculum and offerings
- Providing events, trainings, and hangouts for members
- Enabling more seamless exploration of our Sausalito location for Alameda paddlers

We’re excited to meet everyone and spend time on the water with you. That’s why from now until the end of the year, we invite you to come check us out in Sausalito and enjoy our member guest rates for rentals ($17.50/hr per person). Just mention you’re a Mike’s Paddle customer upon arrival.
